About Me

I’m a professor of law and political science at U.C. Berkeley. My research and teaching focus on legal and political theory; immigration and citizenship; gender, race, and ethnic politics; and freedom of speech and religion. My first book, Justice, Gender, and the Politics of Multiculturalism (Cambridge, 2007), examined conflicts between minority cultural rights and women’s rights. I am completing my second book, Immigration and the Limits of Democracy.
