About Me

I currently study political representation of groups that are traditionally under represented such as women and ethnic minorities in European immigration countries. I am particularly interested in how top down identity labels such as gender, race, religion and sexuality play out in the daily political work of MPs.

I advocate the integration of a gender lens in political science education. I have initiated several publication projects to address this issue in the Netherlands, Europe and the US.

For past projects I studied transnational politics – how migrants maintain political ties with their former homeland and vice versa. I have conducted fieldwork in Turkey,  Suriname and Belgium.
