She completed a PhD in Geosciences and MSc in Engineering Geology at the University of Newcastle (UK) and a BSc (hons) in Natural Sciences at Durham University. Carla is an Associate Professor in the Department of Science, Technology, Engineering and Public Policy, University College London (UCL) and Research Associate at the Gauteng City-Region Observatory (GCRO), Johannesburg, South Africa. She is member of the UCL Urban Innovation and Policy Laboratory. Carla has previously worked in the UK Parliamentary Office of Science and Technology as a Physical Sciences Advisor, engaging directly with legislative decision-makers, developing her expertise and personal interest in science advice and science communication for policy. When she isn’t doing any of these things she can be found writing or telling jokes about science, or somewhere in the wilderness. Occasionally both.
