About Me:

Claire Wofford is an Associate Professor in the Political Science Department at the College of Charleston. Dr. Wofford earned a BA from Wellesley College, a J.D. from Duke University School of Law and a PhD from Emory University. Prior to joining the College of Charleston in 2012, she was the Director of the Center for Women's Studies and Programs and Instructor of Women's Studies and Political Science at USC Upstate. Dr. Wofford's research interests are in the area of American politics, with a particular focus on the legal system and the role of gender in structuring political power. Her research has appeared in Law & Society Review, Journal of Law and Courts, Justice System Journal, Politics & Gender, and American Politics Research, among others. She also has published op-eds for the Baltimore Sun, Charleston Post and Courier and the Greenville News and has been a commentator for national media outlets, including The Atlantic and the Atlanta Journal Constitution. Dr. Wofford teaches courses on American Government, Constitutional Law,  Civil Liberties, and Gender and the Law at the undergraduate level.
