About Me:

Professor Tajali’s research and teaching interests fall in the fields of Comparative Politics, Middle East Studies, and Women’s Studies. With an interdisciplinary perspective, she examines, gender and electoral politics in the Muslim world, with a comparative focus on Iran and Turkey. Her current book project, titled: “Demanding a Seat at the Table: Women’s Organizing for Political Representation in Iran and Turkey” (based on her award winning doctoral dissertation--APSA 2015 Best Dissertation on Women and Politcs), examines how political and institutional structures, religious and cultural norms and values, and voter behavior impact women’s political representation in these two Muslim-majority countries. Since 2007 she has also been collaborating with the research wing of the transnational feminist solidarity network, Women Living Under Muslim Laws (WLUML), and in 2019 she was elected to serve as part of WLUML's executive board.
