About Me:

I'm a political theorist and Associate Professor of Political Science and Gender Studies at the University of Utah. My research is in the field of contemporary democratic theory. I am especially interested in how ordinary citizens generate political power and attempt to shape the conditions of their lives. My first book, Worldly Ethics: Democratic Politics and Care for the World (Duke University Press, 2013) addressed this topic by exploring the relationship between competing models of ethics (therapeutic, charitable, and worldly) and associative democratic activity. My current research project -- Economies of Anti-Blackness: Du Bois and the Gratifications of Whiteness in the 21st Century -- focuses on the work of W.E.B. Du Bois to investigate how enduring investments in whiteness shape democratic politics today.
