About Me:

Sophia is Head of Politics and International Relations at Leeds Beckett University. She previously has worked at University of Manchester and the Open University. Her work has been published in a wide variety of academic journals including most recently Third World Quarterly, International Journal of Feminist Politics, Journal of Postcolonial Studies, Global Policy, Third World Thematics and Politics and Governance. Her co-edited book Sustainable Development in Africa-EU Relations was published by Routledge in 2018 and she has contributed chapters to a number of co-edited volumes, including Routledge's Handbook of Critical European Studies,  Handbook of EU-Africa Relations and Handbook on International Trade Agreements. She is the Co-Editor of the Lynne Reinner book series Advances in International Political Economy and the convenor of the University Association of Contemporary European Studies (UACES) Network of EU-Africa Research (NEAR).

My Research:

Sophia's primary research interest are the development cooperation relations of the EU and the UK and feminist political economy. Her current research is focussed on UK Aid and the Global Britain Agenda, but she has recently published on the Brexit and the EU's Development Cooperation Relations with Africa, the EU's trade and Aid relations with West Africa, microfinance and the gendered dimension of trade.
