My Research:

Stephenie is a Doctoral candidate in the Department of Government and International Relations at the University of Sydney. Supervised by Professor John Keane at the Sydney Democracy Network, Stephenie’s research is cross-disciplinary and explores alternative theories to conventional understandings of sovereignty, power, and the State, with a focus on the intersection of surveillance, cyber politics, and digital technologies in the Asia-Pacific region. Her PhD thesis undertakes a critical re-description of China’s power strategy of cyber sovereignty and its impact on international politics and global Internet governance. Stephenie holds a Bachelor of Arts degree (with Distinction) from the University of Calgary (Canada), and a Master’s degree from the University of Oxford (UK), where her research focused on the cultural and political implications of censorship and surveillance in the post 9/11 era in America.
